What do I need to start?
Virtually anyone who is in good health, reasonably fit, and
comfortable in the water can earn a PADI Open Water Diver
certification. If you are between 10 and 14 or have a child between
these ages, there is a PADI Junior Open Water Diver program
available.
What will I do?
Throughout the course, you’ll learn fundamentals of scuba diving,
including dive equipment and techniques. You earn this rating by
completing five pool dives and knowledge development sessions and by
making four open water (ocean or lake) dives.
By taking the PADI Open Water Diver
Course you will gain the necessary knowledge and skills you need to
safely engage in recreational scuba diving. Upon successful
completion of the course you will be certified to dive anywhere in
the world, up to a maximum depth of 18m in conditions similar to, or
better than those in which you were trained. You will also be able
to expand on any of your present diving skills and knowledge by a
combination of:
-
Self study of the theory presented in your PADI Open Water Diver
manual and completion of simple quizzes and knowledge reviews
for each module
-
Knowledge development sessions in our purpose built lecture
room. Each week you will join your fellow students for a theory
session where you will watch the PADI Open Water Diver video and
your instructor will elaborate on the material in each module
through a slide presentation. At the end of each session you
will take and review a short quiz.
Diving skills development. After the classroom sessions you will go
to the pool where you will learn and master the skills you need to
become a PADI Open Water Diver under the guidance of your
instructor.
Over
the 5 modules the PADI system allows you to build up the necessary
knowledge and skills to progress through your final exam and enjoy
your first open water dives.
The course is organized and run by our very professional staff;
highly qualified PADI instructors and a strong team of Assistant
Instructors & Divemasters. Many of our staff have been diving for
over a decade and have been involved in diving projects all over the
world. This experience will help you to development your skills in
a safe and welcoming environment.
How long will it take?
Courses are usually run over a five week period, allowing you to
work at a steady pace that is comfortable for you. PADI programs
are performance based; you proceed as you demonstrate mastery of
each of the course skills.
The
modular nature of the course allows some flexibility in the way you
learn; whether through the standard course profile or a more
flexible self-study program, such as a CD Rom based course where you
needn’t attend as many of the theory modules
How much will it cost?
The PADI Open Water Diver Course is available from £325.
This includes all manuals and materials necessary for your
successful completion of the course.
All equipment is provided for the duration of the course, including
drysuits with heavily insulated undersuits for your comfort.
All certification fees and dive site entry fees are also included.
