Whether you are a recently qualified diver, or a trimix diver with thousands of dives, the course has something to offer you and you will be a stronger diver for having done it.

The course comprises one day of theory development and three days diving to develop: Capacity, Awareness, Efficiency and Personal Skills

We all want to have fun and dive safely. The more capacity you have in the water to deal with what is going on around you, the more you can relax and have fun. Think about it in terms of driving a car. When you learnt to drive, there’s no way you would have sung along to the radio, or even enjoyed the view. It took up everything you had to just keep the car on the road. These days, you can drive the car, listen to the radio, talk on the phone, and drink your coffee. If you had suggested to your past self all of this was possible you would have never believed it. We do the same thing to you in the water. We “tune down" the skills of buoyancy control, finning, and positioning, giving you the freedom to focus on what you jumped in the water to see or do!

Any sportsman needs to maintain an awareness of a variety of factors. Yet as divers we are often so preoccupied by some elements that we forget others. at it's most basic level this is why people jump in without fins and mask. At a more extreme level it's why people lose track of gas usage and get themselves into trouble. GUE believe every diver needs to develop the ability to maintain a constant awareness of the factors that affect their safety and that of their team. By slowly focussing more and more on awareness, and introducing new factors to think about and consider throughout the course, GUE instructors build divers who maintain an alert awareness of their equipment, their team, and the environment they are in.
GUE courses develop efficiency in divers. We cover every angle, from fine tuning propulsion technique, to streamlining equipment to reduce drag, to encouraging efficiency in teamwork. A GUE diver is someone who looks for efficiencies and hates wasting their precious time and energy. On GUE fundamentals, efficiency is a cornerstone form the moment the course begins, and the course will give you the tools to re-examine your own diving practices from a perspective of efficiency. We look for simple, effective solutions to traditionally complex problems such as gas management and dive planning, and try to make diving as simple and safe as possible.

GUE wants to create a global network of highly trained and skilled divers able to step up and take part in GUE research and exploration projects. To turn this ideal into a reality, we have to develop your personal skills to a high level. This might mean giving you new skills if they are not in your repertoire, or fine tuning your existing skills to increase efficiency and finesse. The course is developmental, rather than evaluative, meaning there is a bar to pass the course, but the instructors job is to do everything they can to get you to that bar, rather than just assess if you are there or not. Regardless of the outcome of the course, you were certainly find yourself a more skilled, proficient diver at the end of it.
